EyeOn Planning Inspiration Day 2017: Gearing up for the future

The World Heritage UNESCO-listed Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands was the perfect venue for the biggest planning event in Europe. EyeOn senior consultant Joost Rongen kicked off the fourth edition of the EyeOn Planning Inspiration Day 2017 on October 5. Around 350 participants representing about 20 nationalities from approximately 200 leading companies, attended the event.

Change the only constant factor

A major theme of this event was that change is accelerating, ‘change is the only constant factor’. Three captivating presentations handled this topic from a distinct perspective. Keynote speaker Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the University of Oxford, Victor Mayer-Schönberger, explained why ‘big data is a big deal’. One takeaway was that we should let data inspire us and rethink how we use data. The presentation by EyeOn managing partner Freek Aertsen and managing partner André Vriens covered trends that have an impact on forecasting and planning. Collaboration is key, ask questions ‘outside your silo’ and use data for other purposes, were some of the conclusions. The afternoon program ended with a bang when keynote speaker Trendwatcher and Futurist, Richard van Hooijdonk, showed us how our world will look like in more than 10 years from now. Will future CFOs be algorithms? One thing is for certain, both technology and disruption will play an even larger role in our lives in the future.

A day full of ‘food for thought’

The 25 enlightening and productive sessions handled a variety of critical topics. There was time to network and enjoy a delicious lunch between the sessions and presentations. Three companies (Anaplan, Jedox, and Solventure) demonstrated their (S&OP) integrated software planning tools and platforms. The day ended with music while drinks and snacks were served.
